In the year 2000, UK singer Craig David released his debut hit single, "Fill Me In." This song was released off of his first album, "Born to do it", which introduced the singer to the the music platform. Back in the early 2000s, the genre garage was very popular, especially in the UK. "Fill me in" had an R&B, 2-step garage beat, which propelled the genre to reach a mass audience.

The song tells a story about the relationship he has with the girl next door, however; her parents despise the fact that she is seeing him.
The song was able to reach number one on the UK Singles Chart in 2000. A year later, it peaked at number 15 on the US Billboard hot 100. "Fill Me In" became the tenth best-selling single in 2000 in the UK.
Despite the song's popularity in the UK, the song was not that popular in the US. Due to the reason why the song was 2-step, America didn't know well enough about the genre.
Craig David once said,
"It was interpreted there (USA) as a leftfield R&B track because it kicks into the two-step thing on the chorus and people don't know what two-step is. Two step is a country dance. It's a hybrid of dance music, house and R&B."
